We were planning to return to the Hill in March to celebrate Social Work Month and continue our mission to keep social workers engaged with Congress and the federal government. However, Capitol Hill remains closed to the public so we will be hosting our events virtually again this year. Because threats to our democracy remain ever-present, will continue to focus on the theme:
Social Work and the Future of Democracy
For the past three years we have focused our March events on responding to threats to democratic institutions such as free and fair elections, equal rights, and a more equitable society. We will be officially launching
We will continue our tradition of connecting hundreds of social work students with Capitol Hill to engage with the federal government through meetings with Congressional offices and staff. The day begins with a plenary session after which students will attend virtual sessions with current and former Hill staffers. There will be ongoing activities throughout the day. The day’s activities will include:
Opening Plenary with speakers, spoken word, presentations, and keynote speaker
There will be ongoing concurrent sessions on topics such as voting, digital advocacy, legislative advocacy
Students will attend virtual meetings with current and former Hill staffers
There will be a virtual Expo with sponsors and other organizations
While CRISP focuses on Congress and the federal government, social issues such as, child welfare, healthcare, housing, and voting rights are being decided at the state and local levels as well as Congress. Our very democracy could be in jeopardy if citizens are not actively engaged in its preservation. CRISP will provide you with information that will equip you to be an informed and responsible citizenry. We send representatives to government to look out for the welfare of citizens. It is up to us to hold them accountable.
