Student Advisory Council

Vision Statement. The Student Advisory Council seeks to assist emerging social work leaders to ensure the promotion of social workers as future candidates for political appointments and for elected public offices among branches and at all levels of government.

Mission Statement. The Student Advisory Council is a Young Professional Component of the Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy. The Council serves as a bridge between students and young professionals, the Board of Directors, and the Congressional Social Work Caucus by facilitating platforms for young professionals to engage with legislators and congressional staff about the need for professional growth and innovation in the field; offering educational forums for all social work students about legislative and policy processes; and building a support foundation for the Council’s stability and longevity through direct service, community outreach, and community-based research.  The Council firmly plants itself in a position to help increase the contributions of emerging social work leaders on Capitol Hill and to effectively optimize societal health for generations to come.

Values. The underlying values of the Council are consistent with the NASW Code of Ethics. These set of core values, embraced social workers through the profession’s history, are as followed:

  • service
  • social justice
  • dignity and worth of the person
  • importance of human relationships
  • integrity
  • competence
